This 1850 census transcription was supposedly from the Luttrell collection at the B.B. Comer Library in Sylacauga. The Gen web Archivist removed the explanation about the Bible source materials from the info Wanda Crafts submitted. Carolyn Luttrell was a genealogist who did a large amount of work in Coosa and Tallapoosa Counties. The library named has a large amount of information she collected over the years. Bible records are mostly in her Talladega Miscellaneous Families Books -the families had ties to both counties. Carolyn Luttrell†internet search returns many hits, all genealogy or history related.

Some notes I have added, especially about the Parker family. I am continually working to add info to this census. But please prove all information for yourself before taking it as fact. Susan Aldridge
My husband descends from James' third wife, Martha Pope. We have hit a "brick wall" on finding Adam's parents. It seems as though the early records of Abbeville, SC have been lost to fire. But I wanted to let you know that our Adam was indeed the brother of William Patterson, who died in Montgomery Co., AL about 1836. I have not personally read William's will, but I had a telephone call from one of his descendants who found it in Montgomery and copied some of the pages (I think it was quite long). It's because of William's will that we know he and Adam were siblings. No other mention of other brothers/sisters were in his will. Dee Hall asked me recently to visit the Coosa County Blog that you wrote on the Knight-Baker families. Now this caught my attention: On the 1850 Coosa Co. census- the Knights, Bakers, and Pattersons all lived next to each other. 516. If you made this notation/addition on the census, can you tell me HOW you made the connection between James A. Patterson being our Adam, and being the brother to William. This find/fact could maybe help the family in their research. (later Knight), Mary Wallace, Keziah McClennon, Rosannah Wallace, John Baker, William Baker, Joseph Baker, and maybe Elizabeth Baker but am not sure if he meant his wife or a daughter in that part of the will. John´s wife was Elizabeth. Mary, Keziah and Rosannah were already married and had been given large doweries and therefore received only one dollar each in the will. John Baker his son should be executor but a Josiah Patterson Jr. signs a probate statement April 1824. Because I have several pages and I am not sure which page is which- I have put them all here lest I leave something out. Davis (b. 1770 VA and
died 1861 in Abbeville, SC. Joshua is on the
Abbeville censuses 1820-1860). Right above
Joshua on the 1820 census is John G.Patterson,
who appears to be in the "age range" of
Joshua. Adam and Milly were married by 1820,
with several children. Since people usually
married people "close-by" I've always been
interested in this John G. Patterson---but
he kinda "dropped off the radar"---can't track
him on another census. There's several James,
Johns etc. in Abbeville from 1830 on.

I've chased down this Patterson family and
COULD NOT make a connection to Adam and
William at that time. Contacted a descendant
who said there was no Adam in their tree (or
anyone who went to Coosa Co., AL)...
... but if Adam's first name was James....
I'll have to go back into my notes and see
if the family researchers in this family have
anything about their James. Now we think
Adam's brother, William, was older than Adam.
William and Millie had a daughter who we
know was born in 1811 (the oldest
child that we know of--Violetta, who was
the second wife of Ebenezer Pond).

Name: James Patterson
Birth: Abt 1780 - Abbeville, SC (South Carolina)
Parents: Josiah C Patterson Born ABT 1751 in County
Tyrone, Ireland Died in Abbeville Co, SC 5 DEC 1835
married Margaret H. James was born
about 1817-1818 in Abbeville and died aft the 1900
census in Coosa Co., AL. That's all of our James'
wives. But Adam was his father. He had a
brother William. There are at
least 2 sets of Patterson families in Coosa
Co. One set are the ancestors of a former
Alabama governor, John Patterson. Their
ancestry has been traced back to Scotland.
Through oral history Adam and William's ancestors
are supposedly from Ireland. I know it is hard to go back to "old notes"
made years ago, but if you find your notes
about Adam's name being James A., I will be very
interested in where you found his full name.

Thanks again for all your work Susan. Are you related
to any Coosa County families?

Linda
Linda Patterson <mackandlinda@yahoo.com></mackandlinda@yahoo.com>
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24241420.post-1142951020301060632006-03-21T06:13:00.001-08:002007-04-05T12:38:09.216-07:0098 year old Drucilla Ann Patterson tells her family storyPlease click on the pictures for a larger view

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24241420.post-1142592047873552142006-03-17T02:32:00.000-08:002007-04-05T12:39:28.724-07:00"Knight family record from 1801""My grandmother's paper on her Knight Family History....page 1" contributed by Dee Hall. The females are 2 women born 1776-1794, 4 girls born 1811-1820 and 2 girls born 1805-1810. That is Richard and Martha and possibly one married son or daugher along with about 10 children in house. James Wright is also in the district.

Georgia had been kept as Sacred Hunting Land for the Indians by the British, but since they lost the war, they had to turn it over to the newly formed American government which opened it county by county to white settlers. Richard Knight left Newberry and appears in herry Co. GA by 1830 census, probably about 1821 because they had a land lottery that year. In 1830 United States Federal Census > Georgia > Henry, Richard Knight appears as 60 to 70 and Martha is 50 to 60. There is a boy and a girl 10 and under 15, two girls 15 and under 30, so there are only 4 children living in the house. Henry County was created on May 15, 1821 by an act of the General Assembly (Ga. Laws 1821 Extra. Session, p. 3). Dooly, Houston, Monroe, Fayette, and Henry County were created in that order by the Georgia Land Lottery Act of 1821 , which was enacted at a special session of the General Assembly four months after the Creek Indians ceded lands between the Ocmulgee and Flint rivers on Jan. 8, 1821 in the first Treaty of Indian Springs.

Richard's son Enoch Asberry Knight met his future wife Faithie V. Baker in Henry and married there in 5 March 1827. I do not know where they lived because I do not find their ages with the Bakers or with Richard Knight in 1830. They must have gone with another relative to Coweta or Carroll Co. because these counties had opened up one year before the young couple married.

Richard Knight moved to Carroll Co.probably after </this>Martha Patsy Satterwhite Knight had died 11 January 1834 probably in Henry Co. Enoch was a hard worker and was working on a well in September 1842- 3 years after their arrival- when he was overpowered by a cloud of gas and died. There was Faithy- alone with her seven childen. What to do? She moved in 1843 to be near her brother and other family members, including her father in law at Hatchett Creek. There she could get the moral support from her extended family and community Faithy needed.

</this>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1
