In 1810 United States Federal Census > South Carolina > Newberry, Richard Knight and Martha are under 45 and have 5 children at home. Bart Satterwhite and wife are over 45 and have 8 children at home.

In 1820 United States Federal Census > South Carolina > Newberry > Newberry city, Richard Knight has one man born 1795-1802, as well as a man born before 1775 (Richard) and a boy born 1811-1820 and 2 boys 1805-1810. The females are 2 women born 1776-1794, 4 girls born 1811-1820 and 2 girls born 1805-1810. That is Richard and Martha and possibly one married son or daugher along with about 10 children in house. James Wright is also in the district.

Georgia had been kept as Sacred Hunting Land for the Indians by the British, but since they lost the war, they had to turn it over to the newly formed American government which opened it county by county to white settlers. Richard Knight left Newberry and appears in herry Co. GA by 1830 census, probably about 1821 because they had a land lottery that year. In 1830 United States Federal Census > Georgia > Henry, Richard Knight appears as 60 to 70 and Martha is 50 to 60. There is a boy and a girl 10 and under 15, two girls 15 and under 30, so there are only 4 children living in the house. Henry County was created on May 15, 1821 by an act of the General Assembly (Ga. Laws 1821 Extra. Session, p. 3). Dooly, Houston, Monroe, Fayette, and Henry County were created in that order by the Georgia Land Lottery Act of 1821 , which was enacted at a special session of the General Assembly four months after the Creek Indians ceded lands between the Ocmulgee and Flint rivers on Jan. 8, 1821 in the first Treaty of Indian Springs.

Richard's son Enoch Asberry Knight met his future wife Faithie V. Baker in Henry and married there in 5 March 1827. I do not know where they lived because I do not find their ages with the Bakers or with Richard Knight in 1830. They must have gone with another relative to Coweta or Carroll Co. because these counties had opened up one year before the young couple married.

Richard Knight moved to Carroll Co.probably after
Martha Patsy Satterwhite Knight had died 11 January 1834 probably in Henry Co. GA. He moved near where his son had been in the newly formed counties of Coweta and Carroll GA which both opened 1826. Richard appears in the 1840 census Carroll County GA and probably lived close to the Coweta/Carroll County line because his descendants speak of Newnan, Coweta Co. GA which was county seat with a court house. Coweta was named for a tribe of Creek Indians, the Cowetas. It was formed from Creek Indian Lands received in a treaty with the Federal government at Indian Springs, GA in Feb, 1825.

1840 United States Federal Census > Georgia > Carroll > District 713
Richard Knight -he is between 70 and 80, had a male 20-30 and 3 women 20-30.Maybe Richard moved into his son's place while his son moved to Talladega, AL.
Joseph C. Baker- he and wife are between 30 and 40 and there are 6 children between 1 and 14.

Richard Lee KNIGHT

7. Annie KNIGHT b: 1819 in Newberry District, South Carolina
8. Walter KNIGHT b: 14 MAR 1819 in Newberry District, South Carolina
9. Joanne KNIGHT died July 13, 1857

Our Enoch Asbury Knight appears for sure in 1840 census Talladega, Alabama. he moved there in 1839 with all their seven children which they had born near Newnan, GA, in either Carroll or Coweta Counties. Enoch was a hard worker and was working on a well in September 1842- 3 years after their arrival- when he was overpowered by a cloud of gas and died. There was Faithy- alone with her seven childen. What to do? She moved in 1843 to be near her brother and other family members, including her father in law at Hatchett Creek. There she could get the moral support from her extended family and community Faithy needed.
